President Hennigan Releases Statement on Immigration Policies

Tuesday, January 31, 2017

A message from Point Park University President Paul Hennigan:

On Friday, Jan. 27, President Donald Trump signed an executive order immediately suspending the visas and other immigration benefits for nationals of seven countries: Iran, Iraq, Syria, Sudan, Yemen, Libya and Somalia. While the executive order does not specifically target university students, faculty or staff, we understand that members of our University community and their loved ones may be affected.

I believe it is important to state unequivocally that Point Park University is an inclusive community that values diversity and supports our students, faculty and staff regardless of sex, race, ethnicity, religion, color, national origin, age (40 years and over), ancestry, disability, veteran status, sexual orientation, gender, gender identity, height, weight, genetic information, marital status, caregiver status or familiar status. We believe that diversity and inclusion are vital to the well-being of everyone here, to the educational mission of Point Park and to the future of our country.

If anyone at the University needs help understanding how the new executive orders might affect their status or the status of family and friends, we have resources at the University to help.

International students with concerns about their status should contact the International Student Services and Enrollment Office at 412-392-4775 or iss@pointpark.edu

Faculty and staff with concerns about their status should contact Lisa Stefanko, vice president for Human Resources, at 412-392-4727 or lstefanko@pointpark.edu.

For all international students, we encourage you to keep your immigration status and visa current, and to consult with the appropriate authorities if you have any questions. We are proud that you are at Point Park University, and we support your dreams of receiving your degree here.

Paul Hennigan
